Through New Lenses....
Have you ever felt like you’re following all the right steps—achieving goals, sticking to routines—and still felt something was missing? That’s exactly how I felt recently, and it sparked a reflection I want to share.
It all started with a conversation I had with a friend. Out of nowhere, I asked her, “So, what are you doing with your life these days?” Without missing a beat, she replied, “I’m just getting bored.” I wasn’t shocked. Even when we follow our routines and hit our targets, something can feel empty inside.
Around the same time, a group of friends nearby caught my attention. They were talking about their "adventures," which, to be honest, weren’t anything extraordinary—just the small, everyday moments that many might overlook. Yet, they were full of excitement and claimed to have no regrets. It made me wonder: How is it that someone living a structured, balanced life feels something’s missing, while others—seemingly "just chilling"—are finding joy in the little things?
That’s when it hit me: perspective. Everyone sees the world through their own lens, shaped by their beliefs and experiences.
Have you ever met someone and instantly formed an opinion about them? We all do it, right? We might think, “This person seems friendly,” or “They seem strict.” That’s perspective in action. As we get to know people or events better, our views evolve, revealing a deeper understanding.
Think about a saying we’ve all heard: “The journey is more important than the destination.”
It’s often repeated for good reason—it emphasizes that the value lies in the experiences, growth, and emotions we encounter along the way, not just in the final outcome. While I agree with that, I’d add: "If we never stop to rest at the destination, how can we fully appreciate the beauty of the journey we took to get there?"
What if, instead of focusing solely on the journey or the destination, it’s really all about perspective?
Albert Einstein once said, “The only source of knowledge is experience.” Maybe the key isn’t in the journey or the destination, but in how we perceive them. After all, our experiences shape how we interpret life.
At the end of the day, it’s not about comparing ourselves to others or following a perfect path. It’s about how we choose to view our own lives and the small moments we experience along the way. Perspective—it’s everything.
So, next time you feel that emptiness or question whether you're on the right path, remember that the way you see your journey can make all the difference. After all, sometimes it's not about where you're headed, but how you choose to look at the road you're traveling. How will you choose to see your journey today?
